Description:
This funding line is directly aligned to the Army Network, Modernization Priority.
This funding line supports the Army Network Cross Functional Team. T2C2 provides a family of expeditionary and mobile satellite terminals. As part of its unified tactical network, the Army's scalable family of
expeditionary ground satellite communication (SATCOM) terminals transmit voice, video and data to provide mission command, situational awareness and an improved common operational picture in support of
multi-domain operations. With a variety of terminals and sizes to support different mission requirements, these SATCOM terminals provide interoperable high-speed, high-capacity connectivity, so Soldiers can
communicate across vast distances and in austere locations and terrains, virtually anytime, anywhere, without the need of static infrastructure. The SATCOM terminals in the portfolio support and complement the
Army's tactical network and architecture by increasing the operational reach and situational awareness of the entire force.
Industry innovation over the last four years has resulted in exponential market growth, with multiple vendors providing commercial terminals available for military needs. The program office will be leveraging a
T2C2 "Family of Terminals" (FoT) strategy to meet Army requirements for the Expeditionary Signal Battalion-Enhanced (ESB-E), Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB), Integrated Tactical Network (ITN)
Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs), Multi-Domain Task Force (MDTF), SPACE Brigade, and other formations. This strategy will enable procurement of the most capable and formation appropriate terminals for
the requirement. The FoT strategy includes communications packages ranging from small teams up to Command Post operations, and includes reusing and upgrading material solutions previously fielded. The
program will transition the T2C2 Lite material solution from an inflatable satellite terminal to a lighter, more expeditionary and capable rigid dish solution, the T2C2 Lite v2. The T2C2 Lite v2 terminal will begin
procurement in FY 2022 to meet the remaining T2C2 lite requirements. In FY 2023, the program will incorporate an Ultra Lite terminal intended for small teams that require high bandwidth network capability in
austere environments. The T2C2 Ultra Lite, will begin procurement of new terminals and upgrade existing Ultra Lite terminals starting in FY 2023. Additionally, the program office will produce logistics products,
program supply support, cyber support, etc. and establish contracts to support the T2C2 Ultra Lite terminal.
The approved Army Procurement Objective (APO) is 637 T2C2 terminals, consisting of 312 T2C2 Lite and 325 Heavy terminals. The T2C2 Capability Production Document (CPD) was validated in November
2013. In 2018, the Army approved procurement of tri-band (X, Ka, Ku) systems for both terminals to provide increased operational flexibility. T2C2 transitioned into Full Rate Production (FRP) for T2C2 Lite and
Heavy terminals in January 2018 after a successful FRP Decision and immediately began fielding in March 2018.
In July 2020, SCOUT ITN ADM directed the incorporation of the SCOUT ITN VSAT and SFAB into the T2C2 Program of Record (PoR). In January 2021, the program revised the Acquisition Program Baseline
(APB) transitioning the program from an ACAT III to an ACAT II. The FoT strategy was approved by the MDA on 11 February 2021. This directed the inclusion of the Ultra Lite solution into the T2C2 PoR and the
